SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a long game. Achieving and maintaining visibility on search engines like Google requires a sustained, strategic approach. There’s no overnight shortcut to success. It’s also a game of patience and persistence. Ranking for competitive keywords can take months, especially in crowded niches, as you’re up against established players with years of authority.

Because I used a free tool to assess, there are limited data for my assessment.

Seobility is a simple and free tool that help you optimize your site for a long-term success in SEO. I recently conducted a SEO audit using the Seobility tool (Figure 1). The results? Eye-opening! While some areas are performing well, others still need improvement. In this blog, I’ll walk you through the key issues, share what’s working well, and outline the actions I’m taking to boost my On-page SEO performance. Whether you’re looking to improve your site’s visibility or just curious about SEO best practices, this audit will provide valuable insights you can apply to your own strategy.

The overall SEO score is 66%, which is decent but leaves room for improvement. I’ll analyze what’s performing well, what’s not, and why certain areas might be underperforming, along with actionable insights.
What’s Performing Well in my SEO audit
1. Link Structure (93%)
The number of internal links in my website is OK. All internal links are not using dynamic parameters (Dynamic URL parameters usually appear as things like “?id=123” at the end of URLs). None of the anchor texts is too long. However, some anchor texts are used more than once, as Google punishes the frequent repetition of anchor texts.
2. Page Structure (79%)
The H1 heading is perfect. However, the structure of some headings is missing one or more levels. I need to work on this to make for the best user experience and improves navigation.
3. Meta Information (72%)
The length of my page title is perfect (322 pixels out of 580 max pixel length). There are no duplicate words in the title. Speaking of Crawlability, there are no problems in accessing the website. There are no alternate links specified on this page. There is no rel next meta tag & rel prev meta tag on this page. The domain is good, no subdomain and does not contain non-latin characters. The URL have no parameters and a session ID, and did not have too many subdirectories.
However, there are more than one meta description on the page (Only one is allowed). I haven’t set up my meta description, negatively impact my page’s click-through rate (CTR) in search results. There is more than one canonical link on this page, which can lead to duplicate content problem
4. Server (73%)
The redirect of URLs with www and non-www subdomain is configured correctly. The web server transmits the web page (HTML) in compressed form. The file size of the HTML document is fine (146 kB).
However, the unnecessary X-Powered-By header is present. The page response time (0.8s) is longer than the 0.4s recommendation, hindering search engine crawling and resulting in bad user experience.
What’s Not Performing Well
1. External Factors (33%)
This is my weakest area. My site did not have enough high-authority websites linking to it (only has 19 backlinks). It has only a few links from other websites and few backlinks from 1 different IP addresses, reducing my site’s visibility.
2. Page Quality (51%)
What my site did not very well: The main page contains 461 words, which is below the recommended amount of 800 words for useful content. While the H1 heading is used in the page content, some words from the page title are not used within the content. 13 images on my site lack alt attributes, which make my site less relevant. There are only a few social sharing widgets, and the page has no additional markup.
But in good side, 35.4% of the text consists of stop words, and the average sentence length of 18.4 words is within a good range. Additionally, the page has a well-structured layout with 8 paragraphs and contains no placeholder text or images. At least one Apple touch icon is specified. A viewport “width=device-width, initial-scale=1” is provided. The use of bold and strong tags is perfect but still need more (9 tags for this site). Lastly, the website uses HTTPS to ensure the privacy and integrity of the data exchanged, and all included files are securely transferred via HTTPS.
Insightful actions I take to fix my SEO audit issues
- Only provide one canonical link to prevent duplicate content issues.
- Remove duplicate or additional meta description tags to ensure that each page has a unique meta description.
- Add the meta description and make sure that the meta description accurately reflects the page content and includes relevant keywords.
- Adjust the page title to be better suited to the content of the page, aligning with the keywords I want to rank for.
- Generate good alternative descriptions (alt attributes) for my images to improve image SEO and help with accessibility.
- Review and improve the heading structure: Ensure that all my headings (H1, H2, etc.) are well-organized and logically structured, which helps both users and search engines navigate my content.
- Improve the page response time. It contains the server response time (= Wait Time To First Byte or Time To First Byte (TTFB)) as well as the time to download an HTML page (= Transfer Time). Then, check page speed with Google PageSpeed Insights.
That’s what I will do for my website SEO optimization. But I still have a lot of things to do for SEO. Some other big steps are still waiting for me to delve into like Keyword Research/Optimization, Technical SEO, Off-page SEO, Mobile-First indexing, Compelling content that answer the searcher’s query, etc. How do I do those? I will write a blog for each in the future.
